Recreation Marine Dash
Paragon Plastics manufactured this featured ABS plastic fascia assembly for use in a marine dashboard application. Beginning with a customer supplied print we conducted the design phase of our project using CAD drawing. The base materials consisted of ABS plastic with grey sterling film, from the liquid gloss series, and vinyl ABS and black ABS. The majority of fabrication was carried out using a 3-station rotary thermoforming machine, and a DMS 5-axis router, with overall +/- .25 mm and +/- 2 degrees tolerances. Specific components were bonded using methacrylate adhesive and plexus 830 or 832. The studs were designed to withstand 20 in/lbs of torque with a nylock nut. In process testing verified color, material, and function standards, and digital calipers ensured the component was the proper dimensions.
Overall, the ABS plastic fascia assembly consisted of three primary components: a dash, an arm rest, and gauge support. The dash measured .150" by 32" by 38", while the arm rest measured .150" by 16" by 26". The gauge support was .150" by 24" by 24" in measurement. All together, the part weighed an estimated 8 lbs. We manufactured 1,000 of these assemblies, and upon completion, delivered them to our client in Florida.
